Virtual Care is not for every situation, especially not emergency situations.

We care about your child's well-being. If you/your child’s symptoms are worsening or an emergency is occurring, please call 911 or proceed directly to your nearest emergency room. At any time during the visit, your KixCare provider may recommend that you seek care in a more appropriate setting. Conditions not suitable for virtual care may include the following:

  • Fever in a child less than 3 months of age

  • Continuous cough, wheezing where there is difficulty talking and breathing

  • Recurrent vomiting and inability to keep liquids down

  • Injury where there is uncontrolled bleeding, or visible deformity of any body part

  • Burn where there is a blistering lesion greater than the size of a loonie

  • Accidental or intentional ingestion of a potential toxic substance or medication

  • Behavior or mental health concern where there is active self-harm or suicidal thoughts

  • Worsening headache due to injury or that has no response to over-the-counter pain medication

Virtual care is also not a substitute for primary care. Encounters through KixCare are not intended to replace the physician-patient relationship your child has with a family pediatrician.
