KixCare Can Help With Common Children's Mental Health Concerns

Anxiety Disorder

When your child’s fears/response to stressors is extreme and persistent this can prevent your child from normal activities, attending school, and navigating different social settings. Worries can be general or specific, and can appear in many forms.

Depression

Depression in children is a mood disorder that is characterized by sadness or disturbance of mood, sleep, energy, or negative thoughts that last weeks or months, and interfere with their daily life.

ADD/ADHD

Children with ADHD have a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects their ability to plan, focus on and execute tasks. It is characterized by difficulty with impulse control, focus and organization. There are three subtypes and symptoms vary.

OCD

When a child experiences repetitive unwanted thoughts, images or urges that result in distressing feelings (obsessions) that they have no control over. They engage in behaviour (compulsions) to try and reduce distress or get rid of obsessions.

ODD

ODD is a pattern of uncooperative, defiant, and hostile behaviour toward authority figures that seriously interferes with the child’s daily life. This needs to have  been occurring on most days for at least 6 months.

Eating Disorders (ED)

EDs are a severe and persistent disturbance in eating behaviours such as restricting, binging, and/or purging.  Children with an ED typically develop an unhealthy preoccupation with food and body size, weight or shape.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)

Kids with BDD have an excessive preoccupation with an imagined or tiny defect in their appearance. They will frequently check the defect and the feelings of shame associated with it can negatively affect their daily life.

Trauma and Attachment

When traumatic or disruptive episode(s) alter a child’s physical and/or emotional safety, this alters their neurodevelopment. It can cause them to have difficulty managing their emotions, forming healthy attachments, and their ability to cope.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

ASD is a complex neurodevelopmental condition impacting a child’s behaviour, interaction, and learning. It often involves social challenges, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviours.

Global Development Delay (GDD)
